Matthew's passion for beer is clearly seen by the people that know him best. From his education in Biology from Arizona State, to his college "past time" of picking out mix six-packs; craft beer started in college. Having taken a course taught by the late, Dr. David Conz (aka Dr. Beer), called the Chemical and Cultural History of Beer, Matthew was able to meet and learn from brewing legends, such as: Fritz Maytag, Ken Grossman & Mitch Steele.
Matthew's first professional brewing job was for Lake Superior Brewing Company (Duluth, MN) as their Assistant Brewer. Head Brewer, Dale Kleinschmidt and his team gave Matthew a comprehensive education on the production of beer. During this time at Lake Superior Brewing, Matthew's thirst for entrepreneurship was growing. This is when the idea to use spent-grain, a beer production by-product, as an ingredient in dog treats. This natural dog treat was our very first product, and you can still find them in our store!
Michael has lived in Duluth, MN his entire adult life. Having come to town as the craft beer renaissance was just starting to gain traction, his love of craft beer grew along with Duluth's burgeoning craft beer scene. Fond memories were formed over pints of Fitger's Brewhouse beer with Charlie Parr and the like playing in the background.
After graduating from UMD in spring of 2010, Michael worked for in human services for a short time before realizing that he wanted to work in the beer service industry. Starting at Sir Benedict's Tavern on the Lake and McKenzie's Bar & Grill, Michael has consistently been bartending at local watering holes for the past five years. This is where he met Matthew, and started talking business. Michael joined Brewfully Inspired™ in January of 2015; together they have been brewing up ideas for the last year.
Michael currently works at the Bent Paddle Brewing Company Taproom, in addition to his role for Brewfully Inspired®. Michael is looking forward to taking his Certified Cicerone® exam in May 2016.
